Doubling up: Eriksen's header leaves De Gea stranded at Old Trafford as Tottenham edge further in front
Emmanuel Adebayor scored his fourth goal in five games as Tottenham edged out Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The striker, who is enjoying a new lease of life under Tim Sherwood, headed home Christian Eriksen's cross 10 minutes before the break.
The Dane doubled the visitor's advantage midway through the second half when he stopped to steer a header beyond David De Gea.
Danny Welbeck pulled a goal back immediately for the champions before Adebayor was taken off on a stretcher.
But Tottenham hung on in the face of some intense pressure from the home side to leapfrog United into sixth place in the Barclays Premier League.
